The selected senior players will be competing in the USA Cricket Women’s National Championship to be held in Florida from August 3rd to 8th, where the Eastern/Central and Western Conferences will go head-to-head, playing 3 x 50 Over matches and 3 x Twenty20’s at Broward Cricket Stadium.
The Women’s Nationals will then be closely followed by the historic inaugural USA Cricket Women’s Under 19 National Championship when 4 Twenty20’s will be played between the two teams from August 11th to 13th.
Teams for the Eastern/Central Conference (Women’s Senior and U19) were previously announced by USA Cricket and can be found here.
USA Cricket has also named the coaches of the Women’s Senior and Women’s U19 Squads for both Eastern/Central and Western Conference. Three of the four have experience with the women’s pathway already in 2021, having coached teams in the inaugural Intra-Regionals held earlier this year. The fourth coach, Asif Mujtaba is the Women’s National U19 coach.
- Senior Eastern/Central Conference: Chita Nilak, coach of the DC team in the Intra-Regionals
- Senior Western Conference: Asif Mujtaba, Women’s National U19 Coach
- U19 Eastern/Central Conference: Mohammed Rashid, coach of the Atlanta team in the Intra-Regionals
- U19 Western Conference: Mario Rampersaud, coach of the Bay Area team in the Intra-Regionals
USA Cricket Operations Director, Richard Done, commented, “Despite a stormy start to the Western Regionals in Houston, our resourceful event team managed to move the second day fixture to Austin before returning to Prairie View in Houston, to get all but one of the fixtures completed for the week. The Western Regional team proved too strong on this occasion for Southwest winning all three matches and clean-sweeping the series, and we’re now looking forward to a competitive Nationals to be held in Florida next week.
It’s also great to see coaches who were involved in the Intra-Regional Series getting their chance at the next level. It’s important that our pathways are not just focused on the players, but also provide opportunities for coaches, umpires, and others to challenge themselves within the system to be better, and a reward to those who have supported this pathway from the start.”
National Women’s Coach, Julia Price, said, “It’s been exciting to see the women’s pathway be established and develop throughout 2021, and it culminates next week when our best players come together in the National Championships, at both Senior and U19 levels, at Central Broward in Florida. Evidence of the emerging talent from that pathway is that 15 players who are under the age of 19 are also included in the Women’s Senior Conference teams. This is an extremely positive sign for the future of the Women’s National Teams, and also a good indicator for the potential that there is for women’s cricket in the USA.”
