A star-studded Jamaica Scorpions side that included 6 West Indies internationals, and 2 who have just been named in the Windies squad for the first time in the shape of Fabian Allen and Oshane Thomas, proved too good for the USA challenge this evening at the Kesington Oval in Barbados.

USA were without Steven Taylor who had to sit out due to his NOC with Jamaica Cricket and Sunny Sohal who injured his knee at training and is now under the watchful eye of the doctor & physio to determine extent of the injury. This gave an opportunity to Jessy Singh for his first game in this year’s tournament.

Despite losing both openers early, there was a promising partnership of exactly 50 from Alex Amsterdam and David Wakefield but a 3 wicket burst from Nikita put the local side in the ascendancy before probably the highlight of the innings from a USA perspective as Timil Patel and Roy Silva combined beautifully to add 57 in just 11 overs before a disastrous run-out sparked a batting collapse which saw the final 5 USA wickets fall for just 6 runs.

The promise of 138 for 5 was unfortunately left with a sub-par total of 144 all out inside 43 overs and USA were left wondering what might have been at the innings break.

Impressive spells of left-arm seam bowling from Saurabh Netravalkar who took 2 wickets and Elmore Hutchinson who was very unlucky to go wicketless gave USA some hope. There was also a wicket for Nosthush Kenjige who continued his strong form with the ball but USA simply didn’t have enough runs on the board.

Next up for USA is the Leeward Islands Hurricanes, again under floodlights and in front of the TV Cameras on Wednesday 14th October, see the schedule in full here.
